Our decision didn't come easy, as we wanted to explore all of the options and possibilities (within our budget) to be sure we were making the best choice. We spent time at boat shows, visiting dealers, going on sea trials and researching online. We talked to other people who have an intimate knowledge of boats and boating, asked about what was important to them (and why), met with a number of manufacturers to discuss options and potential custom changes, and just spent time onboard various models envisioning ourselves on the water for extended periods of time.
When all was said and done, Sabre Yachts came out the winner for the following reasons:
- A reputable and quality builder with a willingness to customize certain design features.
- A well designed and logical helm with twin Stidd seats, great visibility and operational ease.
- A large master cabin on one level with a full walk-a-round berth, head and shower, ample storage.
- A second cabin with queen berth and ensuite head and shower
- A functional AND comfortable main salon for extended cruising and living on board.
- A safe a sturdy deck with wide gunnels, stable and ample rails and hand-holds.
- A proven power plant and drive system (Cummins Zeus)
- A substantial amount of storage space ("utility room") to house supplies, a washer/ dryer, bikes, etc.
- A beautiful and classic yacht design with the finest in materials and workmanship built in the USA
As we are just at the start of the build process, I will be providing updates (and some photos) as things progress over the next nine months. If all goes as planned we will be back on the water sometime in late August.
