It’s time once again for us to start the process of moving Endless Summer north for the season. The first step will be to move her from Longboat Key on the West coast of Florida to Cocoa on the East coast. Weather and seas permitting, we plan to do this 320 mile run in 4 days via the Okeechobee Waterway.
This involves transiting 5 locks from west to east and crossing Lake Okeechobee, the second largest fresh water lake in the United States (Lake Michigan is first). Unfortunately, due to current low water levels in the lake, the Army Corps of Engineers has placed restrictions on the number of lock openings each day. This means we have to stop in “the middle of nowhere” (LaBelle) for one night which provides a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the alligators, mosquitos, snakes and Florida crackers that inhabit these parts! (The Admiral is just thrilled).

Once in Cocoa, Endless Summer will dock there until April 22nd when we will start our trip north up the Intracoastal Waterway to Essex Connecticut for the summer (more on that later!)
